So, we got a nice surprise at the Collingswood Farmer's Market this weekend! We were treated to a cooking demonstration from one of the contestants on this season's "Hell's Kitchen!"
Scott said he guesses that means she didn't win the big prize;) But it was cool, regardless! We got to watch her make a salad, citrus shrimp and an avocado pie (WHICH I am sooooooo making ASAP!:)
And we weren't the only ones treated this weekend;) Since it's our Penny's THIRD birthday on Friday(!!!), we made a special pit stop at the dog treat's stand;) How cute are these cookies??
She got a peanut butter 'people' cookie and one of these.....
...which she thoroughly devoured in about 8 minutes;)
And among the fresh peaches, cherries, zucchini & lettuce that we got at the market...we also picked up a cinnamon & sugar-y sweet Monkey Bread for Sunday morning breakfast from our favorite bakery stand, "Great Harvest"....
Which, we made the most excellent decision to pop this in the toaster oven for about 10 minutes. It made a crispy cinnamon crust on top and a lovely layer of cinnamon & sugar pooled at the bottom:) Yum:)
Confession time: Friday morning I was givin the rare treat of someone just handing me over a cup of coconut chocolate chip HOMEMADE ice cream. OK??? How often does that happen in life? Ummm...next to never! So, I seized the day, left my Vitatop in the fridge and polished that baby off for breakfast. (So fast, in fact, that I didn't even get a picture;) Sooooo....now that you know that, it shouldn't come as surprise that as our lunch for Sunday afternoon....we went here...
Pennington, NJ USED to be home to one of my ALL-TIME favorite ice creams places "Jan's Sweet Shop," so I was QUITE bummed when we showed up to the doors being closed for good:( But never fear, "Viva Gelato Cafe" was right around the corner....
I got the tinest scoops of peanut butter cup & birthday cake in a sugar cone. Summer is the only excuse I can come up with for calling this a lunch;) hahhahahahaha...
And Scott "dined" on a cup of Panna Cotta (sweet & creamy) and espresso.... :) And we shockingly, stayed full until dinner!
Dinner was a bit of a layered dish, based on this recipe. I took a shot of each layer because I just assumed the final dish was not going to be very pretty, and I was correct in my assumption:) The first layer is polenta that I cooked in chicken broth and added salt, pepper, about 2 teaspoons of fresh thyme, a teaspoon of garlic paste and a sprinkle of Gorgonzola cheese. All to tie in the flavors of the next layer....
The main event: Gorgonzola Filled Meatballs hot off the grill...yes, the grill! My Grandmother is probably somewhere cursing me up and down, but I swear...it is THE BEST!!!!!
And finally, topped off with a quick sauce of crushed tomato, garlic, salt, pepper, 2 pinches of sugar and sliced onions. (Told you it wasn't going to be pretty;)
The flavors all played off of each other REALLY well. I especially loved the chopped sage in the meatballs, and of course...the lovely little surprise of melty cheese;) Yum!
Oh well...back to the grind today;) And don't worry....no ice cream in the menu for any meals today! hahahahhahaha...Have a good Monday!
