It's always funny when you find restaurants in your area that you never realized were so nice:) Tre Piani in Princeton was a really beautiful building, with a nice outdoor seating area that spilled over into this really pretty & lounge-worthy courtyard....
So we started with some traditional crispy, chewy Italian bread. What WASN'T "traditional" was that they served it with an ENTIRE bottle of olive oil. As in, the kind you probably have on your kitchen counter! :) ...
And the worst part was the LARGE BOTTLE of olive oil didn't even have a stopper, so it made for QUITE a surprise the first time you went to drizzle a small amount on your plate;) hahahahhahaha...
But seriously, that was my biggest "complaint" about this whole meal:) Everything else was so perfect & delicious! We started with the mozzarella, tomato & roasted red pepper appetizer. The menu stated that the cheese was made daily, and I believe it. It just melted in your mouth...
And as much as I was DYINGGGGGGG to try the 'Rigatoni with filet mignon tips & gorgonzola' that was on the menu....as soon as I saw THIS on the specials menu, I knew I was sold:
Grilled Mahi Mahi with AVOCADO RISOTTO (yeah...that was what ACTUALLY sold me:) and fruit salsa and cilantro. This reminded me a lot of my very favorite dish from Agua Azul in Costa Rica...and it did not disappoint. It was the epitome of 'summer dinner,' so I was totally pleased with my choice (even if I am going BACK for that rigatoni one day;)
And the dessert...seriously: NO WORDS! We had the "Hot Chocolate Cake" with Chocolate Gelati. This was Christmas & Heaven all rolled into one:) It was basically gooey chocolate all wrapped up in buttery phyllo dough. Pure decadence, but not OVER the top richness. It was just perfecto!
And on top of a fabulous meal, we were lucky enough to snag one of those outdoor tables and enjoy the PERFECT (NON-HUMID) weather last night:) Two thumbs up all around:)
