You know your day is gonna be A-OK when it starts out with a little treat from this bag:
Now, don't get me wrong: I loved me some bacon maple Dynamo Donuts, but Doughnut Plant in NYC still reigns supreme on my list (although cream doughnuts have their own category. We'll save that for another dayJ) I love that Doughnut Plant's doughnuts are made with fresh, all natural ingredients...you can just TASTE the quality!
Annddd they just opened a new store in Chelsea which, frighteningly, makes it wayyyy easier to get there than hauling all the way down to the original on Grand Street (although Grand is conveniently near the best blueberry pancakes at "Clinton Street Baking Company"J) I decided to sample the fresh strawberry one I had picked up:
Isn't it so pretty??? I love that it's pink from fresh strawberries, NOT food dye (do you even know what that red dye is made of??) Doughnut Plant is the shiz! Try them if your ever in NYC!
OK....so today was also about as unbalanced as I could get because not only was breakfast a sugary donut (a rarity for a week day!) but I followed it up with some leftover riceball casseroleJ
I'm still kinda shocked I didn't go into some sugar/carb overload by mid afternoon;) hahahahhahahaa...(ps-that casserole was verrrrrrrrry good reheated!)
For a little snack in the afternoon, I tried one of these:
OK...these were seriously the smallest granola bars in their line and on first bite I was NOT impressed. But after a few more bites, it turned around a bit. I guess I like sweet & salty more than sweet & tart.
ANNYWAY, my unbalanced eating day commened with dinner...which, ALL CARBS or not, was one of the BESSSSST we've had lately (and this includes smoked cheese pizza & riceball casserole!)
It all started thanks to this:
A gem that we had hidden in our freezer from our trip to Brooklyn! And it's not just normal bread...oh no!
It was studded with PROSCIUTTO!!!!!
mmmmmmmmmmm! And never doubt the power of the freezer! We let this thaw all day and it tasted as fresh as if it had just come out of the oven. Sooo good!
Another great part of the dinner ALSO came from the freezer...
5 minutes in a pan and these went from frozen to ready to useJ
And we used them to make: Grilled Onion & Fontina 'grilled cheese'.....
Oh man, I don't know what it was about Fontina cheese, but as soon as I took these out of the toaster oven, my kitchen immediately smelled like Paris! Maybe because the fontina was super smooth & buttery...it was the PERFECT melting cheese!
I can't even TELL you how FANTASTIC this was with the bread, grilled onions & fontina! It's AMAZING what three little ingredients can doJ
And if a trip to Crown Bakery isn't in your near future, just pick up any crusty bread and you can still make the most OUTSTANDING grilled cheese sandwich in under 10 minutes with those lovely balsamic onions and fontina cheese. Mind blowing!J
(look how good Scott's looked with a "proper cap" J...)
That ketchup is really starting to grow on meJ Who knew??
And I liked this meal so much that I'm bringin it right over to Ekat's PotluckJ
So after that carb-heavy day, I'm gonna try to sneak in as many green veggies as I can todayJ And THAT'S how you can "rebalance" a totally "unbalanced" day in a jiffyJ Also with a little help from:
Thursday Morning: 30 minutes dance, stretch & weights
Friday Morning: Jillian Yoga Meltdown 2
Hope you guys are READY for the weekend (as if I had to ask!J) Looks like I'll be poppin over to Trader Joe's this afternoon for a little help with the appetizers I'm bringin out with me tonight! I'll let you know if I find anything goodJ Have a GREATTTTT FRIDAY!
