Busy Days need Comfort Food:)

Wow....we got so much done today that this was the FIRST Saturday in awhile that actually felt really looooonnnngggggg.  That NORMALLY only happens Monday-Friday:)  It started with getting my car an oil change at 8:30am and ended with us flopping on the couch as the clock is just striking 11pm.

Anndd we had a pretty good meal in between:)  We had a big old pot of Curtis Stone's "Winter Vegetable Beef Stew" simmering in our slow cooker while we were buzzing around all day...
How much do you love slow cooking?  Throwing everything in a pot at 1 o'clock and having everything made for you by dinnertime?  Can't beat it!  Especially warm beef stew in the cold winter months:)

And since we had a couple of guests with us for dinner tonight, I decided to whip up a couple "extras".  Well, "whip up" might be a bit of a stretch considering the Jim Lahey's No Knead Bread needs about 21 hours to go from start to finish:)  I decided to try out a version with Wheat flour this time....
The bread might have actually needed a FEW more hours to rise since it was a little thin, but it was crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside and really flavorful!  This is really one of the easiest things you could ever make...minus the need for patients:)

And finally, I broke out my Neely's cookbook and whipped up Momma Neely's "Sock-it-to-Me Cake" :)...
A Southern Butter cake filled with pecans, cinnamon & brown sugar...hard to be bad, right??? :)  I think this just may double as Sunday breakfast:)  (that's legal, right??:)

And in other news, the snow held off today and the ladies & I FINALLY got in our showing of "The Black Swan."  Holy s**tballs, was it good!  It literally grabbed you, drug you around for 2 hours, threw you on the ground and left you gasping for air when the final credits rolled.  In other words = Amazing.  Best movie I've seen in a loooooong time.  If you haven't seen it...GO NOW.  Right now...log off your computer and go:)

Hope you have a good night & a great Sunday! :)
