Family Faves...

Morning, everyone!  Hope you had a great weekendJ  After our "chocolate pasta kickoff", our Saturday morning commenced by celebrating our #5 wedding anniversary along with this little face...

Her favorite part of the shenanigans was stealing our cards.  This kid LOVESSS herself some cardsJ

After we made a warm, 'Saturday special' breakfast to kick off the weekend.  I halved this recipe and made some pumpkin cinnamon chip scones for all of us...

Oh yeah...topped with SPICED glaze!  Definitely needed since the scones were not overly sweet and who can ever argue with more pumpkin spice??

All by "romantic" candy corn candle light.  That's how ya gotta do around Halloween, ya know??

After breakfast & a beautiful yoga class (dedicated to breast cancer awareness & 'healing energy'), we headed off to my cousin's communion party where Katie happily RAN for nearly the entire party....oh yeah, only stopping to MC the affairJ  She had a BLAST, my little party animal!

Sunday we really got to celebrating starting with an early morning trip to Terhune Orchard for some of our favorite seasonal treats: apple cider doughnuts...

...and fresh apple cider....
VERY surreal moment in my life of taking our little one for one of our yearly favorites.  I just kept saying to Scott "is this really happening??", cause I'm weirdly sentimental like thatJ  (What?  You never got emotional about DOUGHNUTS??J)

Next we spent some time takin Katie around the farm area to play...

...visiting the locals...

...and taking some 'annual photos' to gasp about how much she changed in almost EXACTLY 365 days when we took her last year!  Crazy...

Next, we drove around for some apple picking with BIG PLANS of all the APPLE RECIPES I was going to make with our loot!!!!

Only problem??

There were about 15 apples left on the trees!
Must have been an OFF season because we went almost nearly the EXACT time last year and got plenty.  Sigghhhh...oh well, at least Katie had a good time...mostly watching her favorite things, birds & airplanes!, out in an open fieldJ
I guess we can still chalk it up to a winJ

In the afternoon, we decked Katie out in her most festive finest...
And headed off to one of our VERY favorite restaurants, "That's Amore," for our Big A dinnerJ  Bonus was that they were starting their "Fall Harvest Restaurant week" menu that day, so we got to partake in the season specialties all for $35 for 4 courses!

I started with this creamy butternut squash & apple bisque...
I've never tasted better butternut squash soup, and the sweetness from the apple REALLY shined through making it FULL of flavor.

Not to mention SOMEONE enjoyed it so much, that she needed her OWN bowl...

Next I sampled the veggie compote crostini over honey goat cheese...
Grilled & diced veggies mixed with mildly green peppercorns over the sweet & tangy goat cheese.  It was definitely a flavor explosion.

And while it was TOUGH to narrow down (that fig salmon with butternut squash risotto lost out by THISMUCH!), I had to go with the 'limited quantity' short rib over saffron parppardelle...
Rich and tender short ribs, savory gravy over herby  saffron noodles...this was comfort in a bowl, if I ever did seeJ

Not to mention, my portion was so large that it was easily split amongst the 3 of usJ  And received enthusiastic thumbs up all aroundJ
(I didn't get a picture of Scott's pork medallions with brandied apples, but they were gooooooooooooooooooooood eats too!)

And I finished off my meal with the item I was MOST excited about:  the caramel apple orzo 'pudding!'...

Creamy and caramely filled with tender apples and a perfect chew from the orzo, this was SUCH a fun take on rice pudding and the 'caramel apple' flavors just made it OH SO FALL!

We also got to sample Scott's dessert of pumpkin cannoli cream layered with nilla wafers & white chocolate chips.  SOOOOO good.  Little & airy mousse scented with pumpkin spice.  Katie couldn't slam this down fast enoughJ

And aside from a split bowl of popcorn that we nibbled on while watching "Best Week Ever" last night, that was the rest of our eating for the weekend.  So THANKFULLY the scale was NOT scary at all this morning!  I soooooo thought I was heading for disaster STARTING the weekend off none too well and knowing there was going to be lots of food ahead, but I guess it all balanced out in the end.  PHEW!  I have a bridesmaid dress to fit in next weekend, after allJ

Alright, I think you've reached your 'shameless photos of Katie' limit for the dayJ  Have a great Monday!!!!
