Well...how bout that? The little engine that could actually let me upload some pictures! Wohooooooooo...looks like "My Tasty Journey" is back in business until we get our new LT:) And since I was able to upload pictures, I thought the first thing I'd show you was our trip to NYC on Friday because not only did we have a good time BUT, as always, we had some gooood eats too! :)
But let's start at the beginning, shall we?? :)
Our first stop of the night was to the FIRST Pizzeria in AMERICA...
Lombardi's is just sooooooooooo good. No, really, this is walk through a snowstorm to get here, just like my Mom & I did once, GOOD! You gotta figure if the first pizza place in America is still standing in the city of 15 pizza places a block...that's sayin something!
We started with a Caesar salad....
But you're not there for the salad, but for the pizza FROM HEAVEN...aka. Lombardi's tiny coal oven:) We went half plain, half homemade meatball...
The salty, fresh cheese is delish, the basil is just perfect, but the thing that makes this pizza rise above the others is THE CRUST! It is flavorful ON IT'S OWN, BEFORE you even add any toppings! It's salty with a nice char kiss from the coal oven. If you have a good base, you have a good pizza...and that's why Lombardi's is just outstanding! MUST go here if you ever find yourself hungry for pizza in NYC:)
Our next stop was just across the street from Lombardi's, and even though we had plans for another dessert (which we'll STILL get to in a sec;), we just HAD to stop at one of Scott's favorites: the ULTRA modern "Rice to Riches"....because yes folks, only in NY would a shop dedicated SOLELY to Rice Pudding not only survive, but THRIVE....
Did you think I was kidding??? As the sign says "We serve rice pudding, and if you don't want that, you can have rice pudding"....
...but of course, the reason they thrive is because it's REALLY, REALLY good...plus a pretty amazing list of flavor options (Mascarpone Cherry or 'Perfectly legal Pecan Pie' anyone??)
...and even though they had TWO of my favorites staring straight at me...
...I decided to shake it up a bit and tried the 'Fluent in French Toast' rice pudding with the "Spirit" (Oatmeal Coconut Cookie) crunch topping....
Maple-y and delicious...and as much as I LOVEEEED the flavor and CRUNCH of the topping...the rice really does stand better on it's own. I think you lost all of the good flavor of the pudding in the crunch of the cookie....but let's not kid ourselves: It was still delicious:)
Scott went with a swirl of "Hazelnut Chocolate Bear Hug" & "Coast to Coast Cheesecake"....he said he only gets there ever so often (and this was much cheaper than paying $50 to have it shipped to the house for his birthday... ;) so he was going all out and not wasting a drop!
...even if our actual VIEW of him looked a little more like this...:) hahahahahhaa....
But, who cares...it was still a great show:) And after burning a few hundred calories from laughing, we decided to hit our ORIGINAL dessert stop:
Now I had always been spectacle of "Crumbs Bake Shop", because I figured while their cupcakes were HUGGGGGE, that doesn't exactly mean they were going to be good....
...however, I was willing to give it a whirl, esp. after seeing the obscene amount of yummy options that were available (and this was after a lot were already SOLD OUT!)....
And even though it was a tough choice between "Half Baked" (yes...brownie & cookie dough topped) and an array of FALL flavors, I just could not pass up this simple little beaut....
My "Good Guy" was a funfetti-type cupcake, filled with vanilla cream and topped with pretty rainbow jimmies (yes, I'm still 5 at heart and those totally put me over the edge:) I must say: Pretty darn delicious! I was surprised at how moist, flavorful and NOT DENSE the cake was, considering it was nearly the size of my head! And the frosting WAS sweet...but far be it from me to complain about sweet frosting (confession: I love it:)....so end of story: I will be visiting "Crumbs" again (with crossed fingers for some SLAMMIN Christmas flavors:)
(and yes, Scott enjoyed his Espresso cupcake too:)
Anndddddd....now you know why I was very ready for some pouring sweat Power Yoga on Saturday morning:) hahahhahahahahahahaha....those cupcakes were still worth my feeling like a dishrag after class;)
So, I hope you are as happy as I that I was able to upload my pictures and enjoyed my SUPER SWEET NYC recap:) I'll have PLENTY more to show you guys this week...so stay tuned:)
Hope your having a relaxing and fun Sunday!
