Simple & spectacular

Hey everyone!  Hope you guys had a great weekend!  This may have been the quickest whirlwind in awhile...but it was enjoyed start to finish, even if it felt like we didn't stop for a momentJ  Well, it did stop for at least ONE moment Saturday night and it was to enjoy one of our BEST dinners in recent memory.  No, really...this was a great one.  We headed to our favorite little town of Collingswood, into the ADORABLE "That's Amore" restaurant.  I already have visions of visiting here at Christmastime, because their "everyday" setting was downright whimsical & charming!
It was a teeny-tiny place, but it felt so warm & cozy with lots of sweet touches like flickering candles & mural painted walls, it totally set the right tone for a great meal.
We dined with friends...which lead to four people being COMPLETELY baffled by what to order from their RIDICULOUSLY tough to choose from menu.  I wanted all of their appetizers, 3 salads and at least 9 entreesJ.  So yeah....it took us about an hour & a half to nail down our noshes for the night.

Thankfully, not too long after we FINALLY placed our order, the appetizers started to appear...

I had picked the 'Fried pizza" thinking it was going to be like the zeppole-dough/marinara & grated cheese topped 'pizza' of my childhood ('Pizza fritta' for those in the knowJ)...so I was SLIGHTLY disappointing when the zeppole-dough was replaced with a loaf of bread.  That was until I bit into it!  Pillowy dough, PHENOMENAL sauce & covered in gooey cheese.  "That's Amore" somehow made simple PIZZA BREAD taste fan-freakin-tastic!

But the REAL appetizer winner was the Arancini di risso (rice balls) stuffed with more stringy cheese.  Crispy and crunchy on the outside with a creamy center, these somehow DID NOT feel heavy or gross.  They were light & delicate.  Simply delicious.

And even though "That's Amore" was having a 'Jersey Fresh Produce Month' with a VERY intriguing menu, I just could NOT stop thinking about their specialty dish:  Their house-made "Sunday Gravy" (which you CAN indeed get any night of the weekJ

Melt-in-your-mouth homemade meatballs, perfectly cooked sausage &  a fork tender pork bone served over homemade spaghetti...talk about something special for a classically 'simple' dish.  This was the closest I've ever had to homemade/made by my Grandmother gravy in a restaurant.  It was absolutely PERFECT.  This is one of those 'last meal' contenders...it was that spot-onJ

And I saved JUST enough room to sample one of their impeccable desserts...mine being the absolutely TO DIE FOR pina colada upside down cake.  Oh. my. heaven...sweet, caramelized pineapple cake studded with coconut and served warm & topped with melty vanilla ice cream, this was just sheer heaven on a plate!
I even took the leftover of my dessert home with me (along with my BOWL of pastaJ)...oh, yes I did!  No shame in my gameJ  It was too delicious to just send back to the kitchenJ

I already can't wait to go back...and yet I'll have the same problem I ALWAYS have when I have such a great meal:  Wanting to try one of the other 9324 delicious things on the menu, but will have a VERY HARD time not having this EXACT meal againJ  SOOOOOO GOOD!  If you're in the area and in the market for a simple yet SPECIAL and SPECTACULAR dinner, try out this place.  You WILL NOT be disappointed!

Alright...well, I must run.  And I mean ACTUALLY run...as needless to say today will be a definite "Detox Monday" J  hahahahahhahaa....

Have a good one!
