Calzones: Fall style...

So since we loved, loved, loved the spinach calzones we made a few weeks ago so much...I thought this time I'd give the good ole calzone a FALL makeoverJ

First, I crisped up a few slices of bacon in a frying pan.  Once they were cooked, I tossed into the pan a sliced onion & 2 small diced apples and let them cook for about 5 minutes...

Once they were soft and had gotten some color, I crumbled up the bacon and mixed that in with the apples & onions...

While the apples & onions were cooking, I rolled out my pizza dough (this time of the buttery Pillsbury variety)...

I sliced the dough into thirds and Scott spooned out the apple mixture onto each half of the dough...

...under Penny's watchful eye, of course! J

Next, we topped em with cheddar cheese...

Seal em up, lay em out on a foil lined cookie sheet...

...brush with a little milk to brown them up and toss in a 375 oven for 20 minutes...

Golden. Brown. Perfection!!

OK...maybe not the best picture to represent all the gooey cheesiness...but I was too hungry to take anotherJ hahahhahahaha...
Super sweet apples, gooey cheese, crispy bacon, tangy onions all encased in a buttery crust.  Now I ask you:  Can that be bad??  I think not!  These seemed slightly fancy for a random weeknight, but they really couldn't have come together quicker!  Try em out with any random (FALL) fillings you have laying around the houseJ

And in contention for the world's most RANDOM side dish:  Cole Slaw...
hahahahaha...I KNOW!  I was driving home thinking how some sort of salad/vegetable should REALLY be served with these treats...andddd since we happened to have a rouge 1/2 head of cabbage that would NOT last the 10 days while we were away, I diced it up, added some mayo and called it a side dish for the nightJ hahahhahahahahaha

Alright folks, well that's all I have for you!!!  We're off tonight to start our journey through Rome, Sorrento & Madrid.  I'm sure I'll have LOTTTTTTSSSS to show you, as I've been tirelessly researching 'best gelato in Florence' & 'best churros in Madrid.'  Hopefully I'll have lots of good eats AND budget travel tips to share when I return on the 17th!

Until then...Ciao!J
